Lady Eagles open conference play by winning 3 of 4

Baseball team drops 2 of 3
The Northeast Texas Community College Eagles (NTCC) softball team opened conference play with a 1-1 split against Paris Junior College on Thursday and won both games of a doubleheader against Kilgore College on Friday.
The Eagles put runs on the board first Thursday with Jennifer Miller and Ashlynn Brown scoring in the third and fifth innings before Paris came back in the sixth to tie the score with two runs of their own. The Eagles fell short during game one, losing 3-2 in seven innings with Hailey Dixon taking the loss.
Game two saw the Eagles trailing one run behind Paris after the first inning. Caitlin Lites kicked off a series of runs for the Eagles with a solo home run in the fourth inning. The Eagles took game two, 4-2, in seven innings with Lites picking up the win.

Junior high Lady Pirates take first, second at Mount Vernon

The junior high Lady Pirates represented Pittsburg well at the Mount Vernon track meet Wednesday as the eighth-grade team finished first while the seventh-grade team was second.
The eighth-grade Lady Pirates won the meet with 196 points, seven points ahead of second-place Mount Vernon.
Deandra Jones and Antoinette Walton both had a pair of first-place finishes for the Lady Pirates as Jones won the 1,600-meter run and 300-meter hurdles and Walton won the 100-meter dash and triple jump. Walton was also second in the long jump while Jones earned a fifth-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles.

Mitchell throws no-hitter as Pirates win tourney

Charlie Mitchell threw a no-hitter Thursday and the Pirates outscored their opponents 35-1 in three games as Pittsburg earned first place at the Gladewater tournament.
Mitchell held Troup without a hit Thursday as the Pirates picked up a 6-0 win in their opening game of the tourney. Mitchell finished the game with 11 strikeouts and walked just three in the win.
Caleb Banks went 3-3 at the plate in the win for the Pirates with an RBI while Garrett Truitt was 2-3 with a double and two RBI. Trace Burns was 2-4 and scored a run while Cody Perry, Mitchell and Kason Newman all had hits in the contest.
The Pirates picked up a lopsided win over Winnsboro Friday as they downed the Red Raiders 18-0 in three innings.

Lady Pirates win six, earn title at Union Grove

The Lady Pirates won six games at the Union Grove tournament last week as they walked away with the tournament championship.
Pittsburg opened the tournament with an 11-0 win over Union Grove Thursday morning.
The Lady Pirates picked up another 11-0 win in their second game of the Day Thursday as they downed Ore City. Jasmine Walker went 4-4 at the plate to lead Pittsburg as she had a double, a triple, two RBI and scored three runs. Justonni Farmer was 3-4 with four steals and two runs scored while Kaycee Parker was 2-3 with an RBI, two steals and a run scored. Brilie Cummings also added two RBI, Genesis Lopez stole two bases and scored twice and McKenzie Blackstock, Erica Hopper and Lindsey Morris each added an RBI each.

Soccer downs Texas High, falls to Mount Pleasant

The Pirates fell to the Tigers 2-0 to fall to 3-1 in district play. The Pirates downed Texas High 3-0 the previous Monday. Pittsburg led Texas High 1-0 at the half courtesy of a goal by Jacob Martinez on an assist by Victor Ponce. Ponce put the Pirates up 2-0 in the second half off an assist from Mario Perez and Daniel Silva scored the final goal of the game on an assist from Martinez.

Lady Pirates place six on All-District Basketball Team

Six Lady Pirates picked up post-season honors last week as the All District 13-3A Basketball Team was announced.
Seniors Jasmine Walker and Denasia Watson were both named to the first team, as was junior forward Shaundrea Rhymes.
Sophomores Justonni Farmer and Ayanna Palmer made the list as second-team members, as did freshman guard Kaycee Parker.
“I am very proud of these girls and what they were able to accomplish this season,” Lady Pirate head coach John Chatham said. “Everyone on the team put in a lot of hard work this season and it is great to see some of my players get recognized for that hard work.”
Pleasant Grove’s Renee Walker was named the district’s MVP while Pleasant Grove coach Jason Boston picked up Coach of the Year honors.

Pirates down Hawks, 4-0

The Pirates soccer squad picked up a 4-0 win over the visiting Pleasant Grove Hawks last Tuesday. Daniel Silva scored the only goal of the first half as Pittsburg led 1-0 at the break.
Silva scored again three minutes into the second half on an assist from Jacob Martinez. Jonathan Ramizez later scored on an assist from Mario Perez and Silva picked up a hat trick with his third goal on another assist from Martinez with 12 minutes to play..
