Youth league team wins state championship

The Pittsburg Pirates 15 and under baseball team won their state championship gamein Tatum. The team is composed of: Noah Thames, Dalton Ernest, Dalton Warrick, Cristian Netro, Chandler Currey, Trevor Richardson, Brett McGee, Jace Wood, Jason Rojas, David McCellon. Coaches for the team are Eric Mc-Gee, Rusty Arnold and Wesley Richardson.

Spearman wins Princedale Invitational

Veteran golfer Steve Spearman, above, was the champion in last weekend’s 56th Annual Princedale Country Club’s Invitational. Spearman, who has won the tournament several times through the years, shot 8 under with a total of 134, 66 on Saturday and 68 on Sunday. Rafe Green, tournament chairman, said the scores were the lowest in a while. Also during the tournament avid golfer, Stephen Parker, right, aced number 6 with a hole in one.
Pittsburg resident Steve Spearman won the Princedale Invitational Golf Tournament over the weekend by posting an 8-under par for a total score of 134.
Other local winners included Frank Parker, who took second in the first flight and Ricky Jo Meeks tied for third and Jeff Ashworth took fourth place in the first flight.

The Pittsburg Pirates 13 and under baseball team won the Dixie JuniorBoys State Championship in Center Texas, earning the spot to represent Texas in the upcoming Dixie Junior Boys World Series in Bossier, La. on Aug. 1 through Aug. 6. Members of the team are: Mason Monts, Derrick McCellon, Kade Sanders, Easton Blackstone, Jake Thompson, Nate Burden, Erik Torres, Chris Garcia, Kevin Villeda, Bryce Burns, Jaylon Jimmerson Michael Netro. Coaches are Randy Monts, Jeff Blackstone and Guy DeLuna.

Spearman wins Princedale Invitational

Pittsburg resident Steve Spearman won the Princedale Invitational Golf Tournament over the weekend by posting an 8-under par for a total score of 134.
Other local winners included Frank Parker, who took second in the first flight and Ricky Jo Meeks tied for third and Jeff Ashworth took fourth place in the first flight.
In the second flight, Paul Sewell shot a final round of 73 to take home first place and his brother, Keith Sewell tied for second with Michael Whitney of Mount Pleasant and Luke MacBeath won fourth place outright.
Bobby Strickland took first place in the third flight; Randy Langegor second; Michael Sparks third; and Ashley Willson got fourth.
In the fourth flight of the day Jamie Martin andJim Swank tied for first.  In the LuLu Flight, JoeHarwell took first place and Stephen Parker hit a hole-in-one on the sixth hole, the only hole-in-one in tournament history of the Princedale Invitational.

UIL selects host venue for football championships

The 2014 University Interscholastic League Football State Championship games will be played at AT&T Stadium in Arlington the league announced last Tuesday.
For only the second year, all 11-man and six-man football championship games will be played at the same location.
Prior to last year, the Conference 1A six-man football championship games were played at Shotwell Stadium in Abilene. “Having all football championship games in one location truly makes for an amazing experience for the coaches, athletes and fans, and last year it lead to a Texashigh school football attendance record,” saidUIL Executive Director Dr. Charles Breithaupt. “We are excited to return to AT&T Stadium and continue to improve on a world class event in the state of Texas.” The 2014 football state championship will mark the fifth year all games in all conferences will be played at pre-determined locations.

Causin’ Chaos finishes third

The Causin’ Chaos 16 and under fastpitch softball team placed 3rd at the USSSA World Series in Plano. The tournament was held on July 17-20 and five teams that entered the final day of play.
Causin’ Chaos entered the final day of the tournamentleading the field in all statistical categories averaging 9.75 runs scored per game, giving up 2.25 runs per game, and an average run differential of 7.5.
Chaos was paced by outstanding performances in the circle by Bailey Smith, Jamie Seawright, Kaycee Parker, and Madison Whitfield. The pitchers combined ERA was 2.17 and held opponents to a batting average of .221. As good as the pitchers were in the circle, so was Chaos’s performance at the plate.

Pirates make All-District selections

District 13-3A All-District baseball selections have been announced and several Pirate players were included on the list. Four Pirate players were included on the First Team list: Garrett Truitt - first base; Trace Burns - third base; Brandon “Bam Bam”Colbert - pitcher; Charlie Mitchell - outfielder. Several Pirates were also included on the Second Team list: Jonathan Boyd - outfielder; Cody Perry - second base; Kason Newman - catcher. Receiving Honorable Mention for the Pirates was Sophomore Caleb Banks.  Pirate coaches were: Tommy Stewart, Drew Webster, and Matthew Woodard.

NTCC to host softball camp

The Northeast Texas Community College Eagles Softball staff will host a three-day skills camp June 16-18 at Eagle Field on the NTCC campus. The camp is open to players ages 5-14. It provides a way to learn and improve on all necessary skills in a structured and scientifically proven system. Games, challenges and prizes will be included to provide a fun and positive experience for all campers. The camp will run from 8 a.m. to noon daily. Campers are asked to bring both outdoor and indoor clothing, spikes, cleats, turf shoes, glove, bat, and any other necessary equipment. They should also plan to bring their own water jug or sports drink and sunscreen. Early registration is $60 and day-of registration is $75. Each camper will receive a t-shirt.
