Pittsburg School Board calls for bond election, May 7

At their regular scheduled meeting, Monday, the Pittsburg Independent School Board members voted unanimously to approve a bond election of $11 million. is $11 million bond sale will cover the cost of several projects, the largest of which is a new Pirate gymnasium at an estimated cost of $5 million. “ e gym is our biggest ticket item,” Superintendent Mrs. Judy Pollan said. School Board President Jack Arnwine addresses the other items on the list when he said, “All these projects are much needed, and some are long past due, our students are worth it and our community is worth it.” During a planning and facilities workshop meeting of the board on the Feb. 1, board member Ricky Parker said, “I’ve been in all the gyms in this district and ours is the worst one.” Also during that meeting board member Jerral Walker said, “Our gym is just not up to 4A standards, I hear people say we’re not putting enough money into our schools.” “If we build this new gym it would be possible for Pittsburg to have a basketball tournament, something we have never been able to do,” board member Greg Miller said.
