Public hearing April 27 for State Loop 255 improvements

The Texas Department of Transportation has scheduled a public hearing for 6 p.m. Thursday, April 27, to present the planned improvements and to solicit public comment on the proposed construction of a new location two-lane roadway, State Loop (SL) 255  (formerly designated as Farm-to-Market Road (FM) 3535) from FM 1520 to US Highway (US) 271 in Camp County.

The meeting is at the Region 8 Education Service Center, 4845 U.S. 271, Pittsburg.

According to the Texas DOT, a portion (approximately 0.6 miles) of SL 255 would be built along existing County Road (CR) 2116, while the remainder (approximately 1.9 miles) would be constructed as a new location roadway. The existing CR 2116 roadway is an oil-sand surface and base with two 9 foot travel lanes and no shoulders. CR 2116 originates at the eastern end of the proposed project and runs to the west for approximately 0.6 mile where it terminates at CR 2110. The existing right-of-way (ROW) width is approximately 50 feet.

Property values rise due mostly to depreciation schedule correction

By Cory Smith | news@campcountynow.com

Camp County residents have begun receiving their residential tax notices in the mail and many are finding that their property values have risen, and in some cases, significantly.
Camp County is divided into three regions by the Camp County Appraisal District to meet the “every three-year appraisal cycle” that’s defined by the property tax code. This year, Region 1 was up for reappraisal, which consists of lake properties and properties within the city of Pittsburg.
Many lake property owners saw an increase in their property tax bills because of discrepancies that were found in relation to the properties not being on the tax roll correctly.
