Hearing a presentation about CASA of Titus, Camp and Morris counties and approving a contract with Westlaw, were among a handful of agenda items addressed by the Camp County Commissioners Court on April 10.
Cheryl Woodard, representing CASA of Titus, Camp and Morris counties appeared before the Court, to make a presentation about the organization and how it benefits Camp County.
“Texas CASA has 72 programs and covers 213 of the 254 counties in Texas. Last year, 9,131 CASA volunteers served 27,952 children out of the 47,348 children in the foster care system. This doesn’t include children who are placed with family and other relatives. In 2016, CASA of Titus, Camp and Morris counties served 167 children with 40 volunteer advocates and three staff members. Of the 167 children, 35 were in Camp County, so even though we’re a small county, we have big needs. We’re an extra pair of eyes and ears for the children in the foster care system. We work in partnership with Child Protective Services: we do monthly visits, make sure their medical needs, physical needs, nutritional needs…all of those type things are maintained and children are being treated as they should be.”
