The Pittsburg Fire Department (PFD) has placed into service a new fire truck that will respond to wildfires throughout Camp County and Pittsburg.
Using local mission funds, Harmony-Pittsburg Baptist Association (HPBA) has purchased a mission trailer to be used in disaster relief.

Don Peek promoted to assistant superintendent. Mr. Peek formerly served as middle school principal.
Majorettes for the 1994-95 school year are Rita Walton, Katrina Smith, Stephanie Lineberger, Kimberly Thomas, Jeanette Blankenship, Chessy Barrett, Kelly McAlester and Rebecca Clemens. Neal Kemph is drum major.

Kennedy family reunion set

The annual Kennedy Family reunion will be on June 13 through June 15. Festivities will begin with a fish fry and crawfish boil on Friday night at 8 p.m. at the family homestead located at 640 County Road 1140. Activities will resume on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the same location. A Father’s Day breakfast will be held on Sunday at 10 a.m. “on the land.”

Farmer reunion to be held

The Farmer family reunion will be on June 13- 15. A fish fry will be held at Marcus and Margaret Curlin’s home at 5 p.m. The family will meet on Saturday at the Veasley Center on Arch Davis Road at 12 p.m. for festivities.  The family will meeton Sunday at 12:30 p.m. at the home of Betty Farmer for dinner and to collect funds for Lafayette Cemetery.

Leroy Hendricks’ Scholarships announced

In honor and remembrance of Leroy Hendricks, a past educator at Pittsburg Intermediate School, four students were awarded the “Leroy Hendricks Scholarship.” Each student received a $500 scholarship. Melinda Faires (far left) and Olga Hicks (far right) present the scholarships to: Cody Perry, Areli Portillo, Megan Monts, and Tanner Lindley.

Library to host Pint-Size Polka

The Pittsburg Library will host Mike Schneider who is a nationally known accordion player and polka musician from Milwaukee, Wis. He will be performing a fun and educational music program for all ages and the program is sponsored by the Friends of the PittsburgCamp County Library.
 
When asked about the program, Mr. Schneider said, “It’s no secretthat polka music is the happiest form of music on the face of the earth, and I thank you for helping me spread this joy by supporting Pint Size Polkas. My vision is to help your family discover the good, clean fun that you can experience with polka music. Whether you’re listening to one of my Pint Size Polkas CDs or in attendance at one of my shows, songs like the “Alphabet Polka,” “Numbers Schottische,” and “Tiny Bubbles in the Tub” are sure to create an environment that’s both educational and entertaining, inspiring your kids to be excited about learning.”

College Board of trustees reorganizes; new work program discussed

Board members were sworn in for another term at Northeast Texas Community College at its May 27 meeting. Camp County Judge Thomas Cravy administered the oath of office to Northeast Texas Community College board members Robin Sharp, John Bryan, Jerry Webster and Chuck Johns. The board also reorganized keeping Dan McCauley as chairman, Chuck Johns as vice chairman and Sid Greer as secretary.

Damon Maellee Holloman was arrested on June 2 by the Camp County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) for an Attorney General warrant.
 
Rodney Eugene Willis was arrested on June 2 by the CCSO for driving while intoxicated-first offense.
 
Donald Ray Veasley was arrested on June 3 by the Department of Public Safety (DPS) for three counts of failure to appear.
 
Martin NMN Rosales was arrested on June 3 by the CCSO for two counts of failure to appear.
 
Daymeon Delmon Johnson was arrested on June 3 by the CCSO for possession of marijuana and endangering a child.
 
Antonio Dwayne Davis was arrested June 4 by the CCSO for assault by threat.

Grandson of local couple selected for leadership conference

Dylan Caldwell, son of Chris and Tamara Caldwell, and grandson of Earnest and Sarah Richmond of Pittsburg has been selected to travel to the Dallas/Fort Worth area as a participant in Education in Action’s Lone Star Leadership Academy. Dylan’s selection for the Academy was based on his outstanding academic success at Waterford Oaks Elementary School, demonstrated leadership ability, a nomination from his teacher, and his involvement in school and community activities.

Plan now for upcoming Independence Day Blast

The Fourth of July is about our rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness and that’s what this year’s celebration will be about, as it has always been. Pittsburg will host its annual Independence Day Blast on Friday, July 4.
 
Bring your family and friends and celebrate our freedoms in beautiful historic Pittsburg. Come out to the Pittsburg Pirate Football Stadium to enjoy Pittsburg’s 30-minute firework presentation along with Parachute Bingo.
 
Five skydivers from East Texas Skydive will show their patriotism while skydiving with the American Flag. This is the only Firework Independence Blast on Friday July 4th in the East Texas area, and is a family event you will not want to miss.
