Texas gubernatorial candidate visits Pittsburg

By Cory Smith

Kathie Glass, a Libertarian candidate for the Texas Governorship stopped in Pittsburg as part of her “Texas 254 Tour” which is a campaigning effort to visit all 254 counties in Texas.

This is not Mrs. Glass’s first attempt at running for governor; she previously ran in the governor’s race in 2010 as well. Mrs. Glass says she wants to be Governor of Texas because the country is in the midst of a political battle. “The federal government is becoming more tyrannical and fiscally irresponsible. We must chart a new course away from Washington and outside the corrupt two-party system,” Mrs. Glass said.

Local man escapes accident with minor injuries

By Cory Smith

Mack Jones was on his way to Mount Vernon from Pittsburg on May 27 when something went very, very wrong. Mr. Jones realized he was about to have a head on collision with an 18-wheeler and swerved to miss it; that’s when his vehicle started to roll.

“At that point, I began to call upon God,” said Mr. Jones.

Mr. Jones is the Pastor at Abundant Life Christian Center in Mount Pleasant and he says he has been having some internal battles the last few months. “I had been praying out of frustration and had become discouraged in ministry. I had made up my mind that I would give up my pastoral duties at the church, but I did not consult, nor did I seek the will of God,” Mr. Jones said.
