Pirates win two out of three

In a triple header Friday, 12/18, the Lady Pirates junior varsity and varsity played the Rivercrest Lady Rebels from Bogata, and boys’ varsity team played the Queen City Bulldogs in the high school gym. The lady JV Pirates outclassed the Lady Bulldogs JV leading at the half 17 – 9 and finishing 40 -21. The Ladies Pirates varsity went to the locker rooms at half-time tied 18 all. The second half was dominated by the Lady Bulldogs as they scored 14 unanswered points in the third quarter and held that lead the rest of the game. The game ended Lady Bulldogs 47, Lady Pirates 33.

Lady Pirates win over Big Sandy

The JV and Varsity Lady Pirates both won their games Monday, 12/21 at home against the Lady Wildcats. The JV played first and outscored the Wildcats 54 to 24. JV high scorer was Kimberly Roach with 12 points. The Varsity also won 61-34 and dominated most of the game. Sr guard Ayanna Palmer and Sr guard D’Ambria Harkey led the varsity scoring with 11 points each. The Ladies varsity team travels to the Aggie Land Tournament 12/28-12/30.

Christian Bates in top 100 Youth football players

Christian Bates of Pittsburg has been selected by the coaches and officials as a candidate to represent the Tri-County Football League at the NFL Scouting Combine that will be held February 23–29, 2016 in Indianapolis. He could be one of twenty that will be chosen from the region.He is the son of George Bates and Magen Clifton.

Pirate squash Mineola Hornets three times

he Mineola Hornets, Tuesday, Dec. 16, in three games, freshman, Junior Varsity and Varsity. e freshman team took the lead early and never let go. At the half the score was freshman Pirates 31- freshman Hornets 9. e freshman Pirates nished o the Hornet freshman 46 -37. e Junior Varsity Pirates did a repeat of the earlier game as they took the lead early and held it through the entire game. e JV Pirates defeated the JV Hornets 54 -46. e Pirate Varsity game against the Mineola Varsity went a bit slower and the lead changed twice. In the rst half the Pirates led by 14 points, but the Hornets slowly creeped the score up until with 4:50 to go in the third quarter the lead had switched hands. e Hornets led 29 to 28, a foul by the Pirates allowed the Hornets to nose ahead 30 to 28.

First Sports basketball registration

First Sports Basketball evaluation and registration for 4 year olds to fourth graders begins Thursday, Dec. 17 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. The second sign-up and evaluation date will be Saturday, Dec. 19 from 9:00 am until noon. Cost will be $40.00 per child. This is a Christian led basketball league. There are half-time devotionals, prayer and scripture learning. The league will encourage Good Sportsmanship and basketball skills.

Pirates defeat DeKalb 73–61

The Boys basketball team defeated the De Kalb Bears 73 – 61 in a non-conference match played Tuesday, 12/08 away in De Kalb. Top scorers were Dejour Dowell with 22 points, Brian Baca with 12 points and Red Shields with 11 points. The Pirate Varsity basketball team is coached by Coach Justin Bryson. The Pirate JV also won defeating the De Kalb JV 47 – 41. The Pirate JV basketball team is coached by Coach Kenneth Johnson, who is also assistant varsity coach.

Baca gets nomination

Pittsburg Athletic Director and Head Coach Brad Baca has been nominated for the 15th Annual Positive Coaching Alliance’s Double-Goal Coach Award for 2015-16. Coach Baca led a coaching staff that has also been nominated as coaching staff of the year. The Pittsburg Pirates football team finished the year as co-district champs,with a 10-2 record for the season.
