Helen Dolores Brashear Davis

Services for Helen Dolores Brashear Davis, 76, of Pittsburg were held March 3 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Pittsburg with Father Ariel Cortes officiating.  Burial was in Our Lady of Pines Cemetery in Daingerfield under the direction of Nail-Haggard Funeral Home.
She was born Oct. 6. 1936, in Youngstown, Ohio, and died Feb. 28 in Longview. She was a graduate of Longview High School in 1954, St. Paul’s School of Nursing and a retired registered nurse from Longview Regional Hospital.
Helen was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Pittsburg and served as financial and parish council secretary.  She was a member of Holy Cross Ladies Guild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Helen D. and J. Morris Brashear; husband, Benny Davis; sisters, Jean Brown and Anne Fair; brother, Joseph M. Brashear; and her granddaughter, Amanda Roach.

Charlie Howard Peckham

Services for Charlie Howard Peckham, 90, of Winnsboro, were held on March 23 with the Rev. Daniel Ledford officiating. Interment was in Bethel Cemetery in Franklin County.
Mr. Peckham was born Feb. 8, 1923 in Dickens County. He died March 20.

J.H. Brigham Young

Services for J.H. Brigham Young, 66, of Pittsburg, formerly of Denton, were held on March 22 at the Erman Smith Funeral Home Chapel.
Mr. Young was born Nov. 15, 1946, in Silsbee to Clarence and Jesse Cross Young and died March 17 at his home in Pittsburg. He served in the U.S. Army from 1967 through 1970 and went to college at the University of North Texas. He worked in the Social Security Administration.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Gene Young.
Mr. Young is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Patrick and Lori Young of Pittsburg; two grandchildren; two brothers, Robert Young of Vincenza, Italy, and Jack Young of Beaumont; three sisters, Barbara Lackey of Lumberton, Martha Ward of Littlefield and Audrey Young of Beamont; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Kenneth Ray Bass

A memorial service for Kenneth Ray Bass will be held on March 23 at 2 p.m. at Emmanuel Baptist Church.
Mr. Bass was born March 23, 1934, in Paris to Obie and Mattalene Bass. Ken passed away on March 11. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, William Bass.
He is survived by his wife, Motoko Bass; sons, Steve Bass, Tim Bass, Darrell Bass and Bill Bass; eight grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; brothers, Donald Bass, Jerry Bass, Robert Bass, and Ed Bass; and sister, Dorothy Ford.

Wayne Torrance Gregory

Services for Wayne Torrance Gregory were held March 14 at 2 p.m. at Dalton and Son Funeral Home in Lewisville.
Mr. Gregory passed away on March 11.  He was 68 years old and is survived by his wife, Bobbie; sons, Wayne, Dennis, Tommy, Steve and Johnny Gregory; step-daughters, Gidget Swan and Bridget Richards; brothers, Ronnie and Daniel Nix; step-sister, Pam; 21 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Dr. Wayne Dyess

Dr. Wayne Dyess, 65, of Nederland, formerly of Pittsburg, died Feb 27 at The Medical Center of Southeast Texas, Port Arthur.
He was born on Nov. 27, 1947, in Mineola, to Bessie and Jim Dyess. He grew up in the Pittsburg area and graduated from Pittsburg High School. Wayne had been a resident of the Nederland area since 1975. Wayne was a veteran of the United States Navy, and he moved to Nederland after leaving the service. He took a job as a band director for Central Junior High School. He graduated with a bachelor of music from Stephen F. Austin State University. In 1990, Wayne earned his master of music from The Catholic University in Washington, D.C., and doctor of education from the University of Houston. He was employed as director of jazz studies and professor of trombone with Lamar University, Beaumont. Wayne had been a member of the Lamar faculty since 1977 when he became assistant director of bands to now-President Jimmy Simmons.

Graveside services for Charles “Choc” Elijah Gamble, 92, of Longview, were held on March 9 at Ebenezer Cemetery with the Rev. Duane Turner officiating.
Mr. Gamble was born Nov. 19, 1920, in Arp and died March 6 in Longview.

Billie Jean Evans Weatherford

Services for Billie Jean Evans Weatherford, 83, of Pittsburg, were held on March 8 at the First United Methodist Church. Private graveside services were held at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Mount Pleasant.
Mrs. Weatherford was born Dec. 31, 1929, in Kaufman and died March 5 at Pittsburg Nursing Center. She was a clerk with the Texas Department of Public Service and has served as the president of the AARP in Pittsburg.
She was preceded in death by her husband, A.J. Weatherford; mother, Pearlie B. Landrum; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Aline and Marvin Pool, Thelma Lee and Jabo Landers, and Thaddis and Ed Moore.
Mrs. Weatherford is survived by her daughters, Debra Kay Lewis of Pittsburg and Cindy Lee Weatherford of Plano; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother, O’Dean Evans of Jefferson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements were handled by Bates Cooper Sloan Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant.

Graveside services for Lynn Carter, 83, of Pittsburg were held March 3 at Bethel Cemetery in Franklin County. The Rev. Don Whisenhunt officiated.
Mrs. Carter was born Dec. 13, 1929 in Franklin County. She died March 1 at Hospice of East Texas Home Place in Tyler.

Tom Evans Jr.

Services for Tom Evans Jr., 83, of Pittsburg, were held on March 2 at Oak Grove Church of Christ with the Rev. Daryl Bowdre officiating. Interment was in Rivers Cemetery in Daingerfield.
Mr. Evans was born Aug. 22, 1929, in Daingerfield and died Feb. 25 at Titus Regional Medical Center.
