J-Dub’s old Leesburg Store

Club holds monthly informative meetings

Our September meeting of the Pittsburg Pioneer Club had Elizabeth Baker who shared her personal experience of “The Freedom of Forgiveness.” In October, we had Mike Reynolds from the Camp County EMS to share much needed information and encouragement. November we met and were inspired by Phillip Jones, our local Veterans Officer gave a report at the November meeting and he gave us such good information about benefits that are available. What a day we had on Veteran’s Day.

Vehicles found by county officers; arrests made

The Camp County Sheri ’s Department received three reports of stolen vehicles, in separate incidents, from Nov. 3 to Nov. 12. All three vehicles have been recovered. ree Camp County residents stopped on Highway 11, west of town, to look at property, and when they returned to the roadway, their 2005 Ford Taurus was gone. “At approximately 2:25 p.m. Nov. 3, Deputy Rudy Ortiz was dispatched to that location to meet with the victim, his son and a friend,” Camp County Sheri Alan McCandless said. “Deputy Ortiz was able to locate a set of tire tracks that were not from the complainant’s vehicle.”

Chief Penn gave new gun law seminar

Twelve business owners participated in a seminar Tuesday, Nov. 17, held by Police Chief Richard Penn on the changes in the gun law that goes into e ect on Jan. 1, 2016. “We do not want to express an opinion, we want to put it out there for you as a business owner to decide what you want to do,” Chief Penn said. “Come Jan.1, you must have the signage up or on Jan.2 someone may come in your store open carrying,” Chief Penn said. Penn made no recommendations except to say that if a business wants to put up any of the new signage to get it commercially done, the law is very strict about size of the letters, colors of background and letters. He was aware of several printers in town able to print the signs. Chief Penn explained the wording and the details of the signage to the group. e wording of the signs must conform exactly to the wording prescribed in the law. Each sign must be in English and Spanish.

Austin Hutson moves to last final audition

Austin Hutson won rst place on Tuesday, Nov. 11, at Sunnyvale High School in his singing audition earning the right to continue to the last round of auditions to be named to the Texas All-State choir in January. Alyssa Saunders won rst alternate. is means she also has a chance to be allowed to audition in the nal round. Karen Elrod omas, director of choral music activities and piano lab instructor said, “We will re-double our e orts now to be so well prepared that even those 6A students in Plano and Richardson will fear these Pittsburg Pirates.”

Set builders finish backdrops for musical

Through Dec. 3 Photography Club Exhibit The Northeast Texas Photography Club will exhibit a collection of work in the foyer of the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts at Northeast Texas Community College November 9 through December 3. The display will include photography in a variety of styles, all shot by local members. An artist reception will be held Thursday, Nov. 12 at 2:30 p.m. in the Whatley Center foyer.
