Pittsburg citizens pass school bond election by a 2-1 margin

By a two to one margin, Pittsburg citizens passed an $11 million school bond proposal Saturday, May 7. e bond election results are: for – 601, and against – 330. is $11 million bond sale will cover the cost of several projects, the largest of which is a new Pirate gymnasium at an estimated cost of $5 million. “ e gym is our biggest ticket item,” Superintendent Mrs. Judy Pollan said. School Board President Jack Arnwine addresses the other items on the list when he said, “All these projects are much needed, and some are long past due, our students are worth it and our community is worth it.” e school administration led by Superintendent Mrs. Judy Pollen, and Assistant-Superintendent Mrs. Beth Anne Dunavant have listened and investigated the needs and desires of the faculty, students, and citizens of Pittsburg about the areas of the schools physical plants that need attention, repair, improvement and construction. e Administration and the members of the Pittsburg School Board met several times to discuss these necessities and on Feb. 1, met to discuss the list that had been compiled with the engineering rm they had asked to evaluate the cost of the repairs and construction.
