• Gazette story remembers the state championship on page one. “It was a perfect season, 1980, when the Pittsburg Pirates won the State AAA championship. e team went 15-0, and only 23 points were scored against them.”

• Citizens in Rocky Mound asked to be de-annexed.

Tickets go on sale Thursday

Tickets for the first adult Hee Haw production, written and directed by Carolyn Anders, will go on sale this Thursday and can be bought at The Pittsburg Gazette. Tickets are $10 each. Proceeds from the event will be used to help dress up Pittsburg during the Christmas season. The cast of characters includes favorites from the oldHee Haw show: Mayor Shawn Kennington, A.J. Mason as Buck and Roy; Ida Lee as Carolyn Franks, Laverne will be Steven Simmons, Clayton Pilgrim aka Junior Sample will be selling cars; Fanny Hively will debut as Minnie Pearl and Jerry French will keep everyone laughing as the emcee for the evening. Musical numbers from Pittsburg’s most talented will be performed including Hee Haw’s infamous gospel quartet.

• A head-on collision at approximately on Farm-to-Market Road 556, approximately 4.5 miles from Pittsburg, resulted in the death of a Daingerfield man.

• Northeast Texas Community College starts culinary arts program in the 14- county East Texas Workforce Development area. The Julia Truitt Culinary Arts & Hospitality Management Program was presented to the board of trustees at the regular meeting.

• Earnest and Sarah Richmond of Pittsburg announce the birth of their grandson, Carson Alan Caldwell, July 9 at Methodist Charleton Hospital in Dallas at 12:37 a.m. He weighed 6 pounds and 9 ounces, and was 20 inches long.

Four hour stand off ends with arrest

A four hour and forty- ve minute stando Sunday night ended with the arrest of David Andrew Kelley, 31. e Camp County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from a residence off County Road 2603 in the underbird Point subdivision at 6:15. “ The caller stated she was hiding in the bathroom because there was a man in the house shooting the house up, and he had shot at her and at his father,” Sheriff Alan McCandless said. Camp County deputies Randy Huggins, Rudy Ortiz and David Abernathy, along with Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Tony Ortez responded to the call. Sheriff McCandless and Chief Deputy Randal Lain were notified, and they responded as well. “At the time of the call, it was unclear as to whether anyone had been shot,” Sheriff McCandless said. “Trooper Ortez was the rst to arrive, and he determined everyone had gotten out of the house, except the man with the gun.
