• Gazette story remembers the state championship on page one. “It was a perfect season, 1980, when the Pittsburg Pirates won the State AAA championship. e team went 15-0, and only 23 points were scored against them.”

• Citizens in Rocky Mound asked to be de-annexed.

• For nearly a year a group of residents have raged against the city of Rocky Mound.

• The 2008 senior princesses were Katryna Watkins, Zuleyma Garza, Jada Avinger, and Cherish Burns; duchesses were Shakedra Tryalor, freshman, Ashley Mitchell, sophomore, Jessica Gallegos, junior, Jessica Walker, junior, Charnequa Frazier, sophomore, and Nataria Wilson, freshman.

• George and Mary Alice Allred celebrated their 60th anniversary Aug. 29.
