By Ellis Knox | reporter@campcountynow.com

Pittsburg High School senior Austin Hutson and Brandon Mallory will depart for New York City and their Carnegie Hall debut with 250 other high school singers in an honors choir that will perform live, Sunday, Feb. 5.

Hutson, the son of Pamela Rowden, is a countertenor and will sing Tenor 1 in the honors choir.

Mallory, the son of Amy and Robby Holcomb, is a bass and will sing Bass 2 in the honor choir.

Both Hutson, a senior, and Mallory, a sophomore, are also accomplished pianists, trombonists, and thespians.

The pair did not find out about the competition until almost too late to enter.

However, PHS choir director Karen Thomas and their parents hustled them up and got their try-out recordings done in time. Both were accepted, much to the young men’s surprise.

Hackett is ‘spicing things up’ in PISD

By Cory Smith | news@campcountynow.com

Pittsburg Independent School District recently hired a new food service director in Chris Hackett, who has already started to spice things up a bit in the kitchens across the district.

Hackett has 31 years of experience and worked her way through the ranks.

“I really love what I do and I’m really excited…I’m taking it as a challenge. There are a couple things that I do want to change. I’ve been delayed though, because we had an administrative review in October so that took up a lot of my time, so it wasn’t until November that I started changing the menus,” said Hackett.

The administrative review, carried out by the Texas Department of Agriculture, is an extensive 12-week review process in which inspectors walk through facilities, view guidelines, and the like.
