Filing underway for Republican candidates

The Camp County Republican Party announces that the filing period for candidates to submit their applications for a place on the March, 4, 2014 ballot is underway.
The Republican Primary Election ballot runs from Saturday Nov. 9 through Monday Dec. 9.
“We encourage all Republican candidates in the county to file your applications well before the 6 p.m. deadline of Dec. 9,” County Chairman Rex Law said.
Republicans interested in filing for candidacy should contact Chairman Law at 903-856-6619.

Republican meeting

Camp County Republican Party will have its monthly meeting on Nov. 16 at 9 a.m. at Pizza Inn on Hwy 271 North. Guests will include staff member from the George P Bush campaign, Jeff Miller, as well as US Congressman candidate Tony Arterburn from Rockwall. There will be a $2 continental breakfast, attendees are urged to have their questions ready for candidates.

CPS donates sacks of seed to NTCC

Crop Production Services recently donated 13 sacks of cool season forages to the Northeast Texas Community College Ag Department for use by the Agronomy class.  
Representatives Wayne Marshall and Jay Madison presented the gift during a recent class. They are pictured above with NTCC Agronomy students; faculty members Chad Henry and Joe Whinery; and Titus County Extension Agent Kenny Rollins, who assisted with setting up test plots for the cool season forages. The class is using the seeds to study different planting techniques on the NTCC instructional farm.

Livestock report

Shannon Davis of the Winnsboro Livestock Commission reported a total of 975 head of cattle moved through the auction on Nov. 8, at the following prices:
•Steers, under 300 pounds, $1.65-$2.75 a pound; 300-400 pounds, $1.50-$2.40 a pound; 400-500 pounds, $1.35-$2.15 a pound; over 500 pounds, $1.20-$1.90 a pound.
•Heifers, under 300 pounds, $1.50-$2.45 a pound; 300-400 pounds, $1.35-$2.10  a pound; 400-500 pounds, $1.30-$1.90 a pound; over 500 pounds, $1.15-$1.70 a pound.
•Packer cows, $.60 - $.8550 cents a pound.
•Packer bulls, $.82- $1.02 cents a pound.
•Cows and heifers, $900 - $1,750 a head
•Cow/Calf Pairs, $1050-$2150 a head.
• Baby calves, $15- $285 a head.

True Hope Fellowship

True Hope Fellowship Ministries will be hosting their ribbon cutting, Nov. 15 at 105 Jefferson St. Pittsburg at 4:30 p.m.
Bishop Burns is welcoming the community to join the ministry in their happy hour.
“We are so grateful to God just to be used to help hurting people, the homeless, offenders, those on probation and their families,” Bishop Burns said. “To the homeless, unsaved and rejected, Jesus came to save you and you are special to God.”
Every second Saturday True Hope Fellowship Ministries’ will be hosting their Saturday Night Live. Everyone is welcome to attend. There will be gospel groups and good messages for the community to enjoy. True Hope Fellowship Ministries is a downtown church located at 105 Jefferson St, Pittsburg next to Factory Connection.

Franks honored

Pittsburg High School student Aaron Franks recently sang in the Texas Music Educators’ Association Region 4 2013 All-Region Choir. Franks earned the right to compete with only 15 other young men for a position in the 2014 All-State Choir.

Davis welcomes 20th Century Club

Jane Davis welcomed The Twentieth Century Study Club along with new members, Paula Archer and Patsy Capps, to her beautiful lakeside home. Guest speaker Dana Pool, owner/operator/chef of Los Pinos Ranch Vineyards spoke of her love for her winery and some of her many daily joys.  A bountiful salad and dessert luncheon was provided by one-half of the club members and served by Jane Davis, Rita Harvey and Sarah Johns.
