Southern Wind resident makes a wish on Valentines

Southern Wind Manor resident, Larry Michael Wunsch spent his Valentine’s Day having one of his dreams come true.
Mr. Wunsch has always wanted to wear a tuxedo. Growing up he never received the opportunity to attend a prom or homecoming where a tuxedo would be a suitable outfit.
“If I could wear one I would feel like a celebrity, like a star,” Mr. Wunsch said.
So the employees of Southern Wind Manor used this Valentine’s holiday to make Mr. Wunsch’s dream come true by raising the funds to give Mr. Wunsch a tuxedo. Paul R. Mayben, of The Mayben Group, received word about Mr. Wunsch’s wish and offered to help make that dream become a reality.
Mr. Wunsch visited Mayben’s and was fitted and measured for his very own tuxedo. The Mayben Group was able to secure him a tuxedo with the help of the Southern Wind employees. Mr. Wunsch was given his tuxedo just in time for the Valentine’s Day party Friday, Feb. 14 at Southern Wind.

Pittsburg honor student stars in NTCC film

Charles Shafer, in his memoir of life in Northeast Texas, noted that when he was young, Congressman Wright Patman seemed to speak to local residents with the voice of God—and he “appeared about as old.”  Patman represented Northeast Texas in Washington D.C. from 1929 to 1976, and is commemorated today by the Bowie and Cass County Lake that bears his name.
But what did his life and tenure say about our region?  What kind of man was he? This is a question that the Northeast Texas Community College Webb Society has sought to answer in a new film about Wright Patman’s life. The group will host a premiere of their film on Friday, Feb. 21 at 7 p.m. the Mount Pleasant Public Library (601 North Madison in Mount Pleasant). The public is invited for a free presentation of the 50-minute film, for the panel discussion that will follow the film, and a free dessert that will be served afterwards.
