20th Century Club group recognizes historic homes

The 20th Century Club members are proud to recognize these two historic Pittsburg homes.  The annual “Friendship Luncheon and Tea” was held at The Abernathy House.  Members and the home owner, Neoma Twining, are shown with the marker placed in front of the home.
The home, at 406 Quitman, is known as the Abernathy Home and was built in 1896. It was previously owned by Mr. and Mrs. D. H. Abernathy

Band students perform

Several band students attended the Region 4 Solo and Ensemble contest and brought home a 1st division medal. Project graduation deadline draws near

Pittsburg High School seniors have until May 2 to turn in their registration forms and money for Project Graduation. Cost is $25 for Project Graduation. If you want the senior video, there is an additional $10 cost. Students may turn their forms and money into Mr. Whitten in Room 108 at the high school.
Final orders for the Pittsburg High School yearbook will be placed on May 16. After that date, there is no guarantee you will receive a yearbook if you want one next school year. Only a few extra will be ordered. If you want to guarantee to have a book, see Mr. Whitten in Room 108 at the high school for an order form or download one off the high school website. The yearbook will also feature videos of additional pictures you can download with a free app on your Smartphone. The cost is only $40.

College receives several awards and honors

“Since last month our string of national recognitions has continued,” Northeast Texas Community College President Dr. Brad Johnson said in his report to the college board of trustees. The board met April 22 for its regular board meeting.
Dr. Johnson said there were two Jack Kent scholars at NTCC.

Select driver license offices open Saturdays to issue election identification certificates

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) in advance of the upcoming primary runoff election will be offering Saturday hours at select driver license offices throughout the state to issue Election Identification Certificates (EIC) only. DPS will also be deploying mobile stations to various locations across Texas in an ongoing effort to ensure Texans have access to EICs. Additionally, select county locations will be issuing EICs at the local level.
The 2014 primary runoff election in Texas is May 27, with early voting from May 19 - 23.

Watson medals

Denashia Watson wins the gold medal in the shot-put event with a distance of 38 feet, 3 inches at the Regional meet in Commerce on Saturday. She will compete at the State meet in Austin on May 9.

Pirates rout Leopards

Liberty Eylau didn’t stand a chance last Friday, as the Pirates captured a blowout 7-1 win in seven innings.
The Pirates scored three runs in the fifth on an RBI single by Brandon Colbert and an RBI single by Charlie Mitchell.
Garrett Truitt was hot from the plate for the Pirates. Garrett Truitt went 2-3 and scored two runs. He doubled in the third inning and singled in the fifth inning.
Brandon Colbert racked up 13 strikeouts in the Pirates win. Colbert allowed no earned runs on six hits and four walks over seven innings.
Javon Rigsby ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with the loss. He allowed seven runs in six innings, walked four and struck out seven.
The Pirates went up for good in the second, scoring three runs on a two-run single by Cody Perry.

Michael Andre Watkins was arrested on April 22 by the Pittsburg Police Department (PPD) for a Capias Pro fine, evading, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Norma Torres Lozano Rivera was arrested on April 23 by the Constable for motion to revoke and theft by check.
Bridget Michelle Fritz was arrested on April 25 by the Constable for duty striking unattended vehicle.
Terry Lynn Black was arrested on April 23 by the Camp County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) for failure to appear and theft of property $500-$1500.
Joshua Ryan Weatherall was arrested on April 23 by the Constable for criminal mischief and theft of property. 
Sharlee Kascya Woods was arrested on April 25 by CCSO for Capias Pro fines.
