Donation

Jennifer Harland, manager of external affairs for AEP SWEPCO in Mount Pleasant recently presented a check for $1,000 to Dr. Jonathan McCullough, Northeast Texas Community College vice president for advancement. The contribution will be used to provide a scholarship for NTCC’s new work scholarship pilot program. For more information about scholarships, contact Dr. McCullough at 903-434-8115.

Medical Assistant program has graduation

The Northeast Texas Community College Medical Assistant program recently learned that 100 percent of students graduating from the program this May have passed their professional certification exams.
 
The graduating class members, are Irma Ruiz of Mount Vernon, Kristy Fletcher of Pittsburg, Sara Sorrells of Mount Pleasant, Sheravon Hopkins of Hughes Springs and Holly Mayers of Cumby.

Barnwell turns 90

Mildred Reynolds Barnwell was born on May 9, 1924 to Roy and Gertrude Reynolds in the Union community in Camp County. She was married to R.E. (Bo) Barnwell in 1943. Friends and family joined her on May 4th to celebrate her 90th birthday at the home of her brother Don Reynolds.

Cub Scout sign-up is May 17

Cub Scout sign-up is Saturday, May 17 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Pittsburg City Park, across from Pittsburg High School on Texas Street. Boys entering grades 1-5 are asked to join. Activities include: fishing, knot-tying, tent set up, flag folding and more. Free hot dogs, drinks and s’mores will be served. Band wins at festival

Pittsburg Junior High School band students attended the Pride of Texas Music Festival on April 29 in Plano, Texas. Three judges unanimously awarded the band a “superior” first division rating. This is the second year that junior high students have attended the invitational contest.
