What has happened to this country?

Dear Editor

Dear Editor:

The recent drop in the price of crude oil should be looked upon by the leadership of our nation as a time to move further towards U.S. energy independence. The increased energy production in the U.S. of natural gas and oil through fracking is incredibly positive not only in terms of American jobs created and retaining money inside the U.S. but it is also a gigantic step in terms of protecting our national security. Steps must be taken to keep fracking alive and prospering in our nation as well as the move to open huge fields of oil and natural gas accessible by fracking globally.
I agree and support supply and demand setting the market price for the price of crude, but I also support our movement to become energy independent.

For the good times…

 City limits by Debbie Knox

By now, most of Pittsburg knows I submitted my letter of resignation last Tuesday. It was a difficult decision, but I am at peace. It was hard because I love this business. Thankfully, I have much to share, so here goes. Starting out in my mid-20s and being raised by a single mother and bossy sister five years my senior, I was pretty naïve about everything. We were relatively new in Pittsburg and I was so excited at the opportunity to work for Dick White who actually approached me to work for him. I was clueless about the business, except for the obvious, but loved it from the beginning. And I loved Dick and Jenny White; still do. I had the privilege of visiting with them at their new home in Austin last weekend. For those who never met Dick and Jenny, Dick is beyond patient and let’s just say Jenny is the opposite. It was the late 70s when I began, and nothing prepared me for the experiences I was about to have.

Will Johnny Manziel ever grow up?

Ramblings from the Press Box
by Cory Smith

I’ve said it from the get-go…Johnny Manziel is poised to be the biggest bust in NFL history and if he continues on his current path, I have no doubt my prediction will come to fruition. As the old saying goes, Manziel thinks he’s “all that and a bag of chips.” He was free to do what he wanted at A&M, Kevin Summlin didn’t care what he was doing because he was winning games.
Manziel is probably, no check that, he is the most immature 22 year old out there. And the fact that he continues to use his age as a scapegoat only proves the aforementioned point. Manziel has the potential to be a star-studded player in the NFL, but he continues to shoot himself in the foot.
Manziel’s head has gotten way too big for his body and he got a much needed dose of reality when the Cincinnati Bengals put him on his back for a majority of his first NFL start.

A toast to 2014 and looking ahead to 2015

City Limits
by Debbie Knox

A toast to:

•Glenda Lee for all her efforts in the Tommy Lee Biker Scholarship Fund and the toy drive. This year, 300 Camp County families signed up for toys, many with multiple children. Glenda and her very small staff work tirelessly in helping these families have a Merry Christmas. The same goes for the Tommy Lee Biker Run which is a fundraiser for Camp County Scholarships. What an asset these charities are for our very small community.
•All of the folks who donate to the charities both in name and anonymously. There are some people who give multiple bicycles, along with more expensive gifts. Thanks for having very big hearts.
•Don Talley who provides a venue for toy drop off and for the biker rally. Mr. Talley has been very generous in his contributions to both charities.

It was the happiest Christmas ever

Near the Windmill

by Syble French

Don’t look now, but I think it’s Christmas. So  if you haven’t got yourbetter half something under the tree, you better put this paper down and head for the nearest store.

Back when I was young and tender I thought how nice it would be if Christmas came more often. Now that I’m as old as Santa,I’m beginning to think how nice it would be if he skipped a few years. Yes, Santa and I go way back, back to the good old days when that little bag he had flung over his back could really hold enough toys for all the kids in the community. After reading all the letters to Santa, I wouldn’t be surprised if Santa doesn’t have to come by train.

I have had lots of happy Christmases during my years. My dad and mother saw to it that we always had a wonderful Christmas. However, the Christmas I will always remember above all the others is the year old Santa didn’t leave very much under our tree.

Congratulations to all PISD staff

Ramblings from the Press Box by Cory Smith

I went to the PISD school board meeting Monday night, as I have so many times before, but this meeting was different. Earlier that morning, PISD Superintendent, Judy Pollan, visited each campus and distributed Christmas bonuses to staff members. Several PISD employees came to the school board meeting later that night to offer their thanks to Mrs. Pollan and the PISD board members. It was such a joy to listen to these staff members voice just how much the Christmas bonuses meant to them and other staff members of their respective campus.
