Keeping the faith

A er being in Austin for about a week can now see how a Republican minded person can be swayed to believe Donald Trump has no chance or any right to be the next president. eir rhetoric is non-stop and their accusations have just enough truth in them to possibly be confused for the truth. e one saying that really stuck to me was “Trump is just the Republican version of Bernie Sanders.” According to most of Hillary Clinton`s supporters, her problems can be solved with “she never did that” or “she has already apologized for that.” I`m sure Benedict Arnold was sorry he became a traitor and even had he apologized he would have still been considered America`s most famous traitor. My point is, I see a closer relationship with Benedict and Hillary than I do with Trump and Sanders. But, that is just my opinion and I`m lucky enough to live somewhere that is the majority thinks the same way.

If you could make one rule that everyone in the world had to follow, what rule would you make, and why?

Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor:

I wanted to bring to your attention a historic opportunity in global public health. Only two countries – Pakistan and Afghanistan – have never stopped the paralyzing disease polio. If we can root the virus out of these two last strongholds, polio is poised to be only the second human disease ever eradicated, aer smallpox. Experts hope to see the last case of polio in these countries in 2016, bringing this opportunity tantalizingly close.  However, experts warn that US $1.5 billion in additional funds are urgently needed to ensure we have the resources in place to nish the job.

It’s a new crisis every week

Does it really surprise you that Donald Trump is crude? In a polite society, lewd and crude language is just not permitted. Trump made these comments 11 years ago and has apologized already. I`m sure he is sorry he was caught saying those words, but he might say it again next week. He will be more careful on who could be possibly be listening. Now Hillary Clinton is so shocked, she has not heard words like this, well since the last time she cussed Bill Clinton. Her profanity laced tirades are famous; the Secret Service has had to step in because her attacks became physical to the point the president had to be protected. Many people (several Republican Leaders to) are calling for Trump to drop out of the race. Really? We are electing a president and not a priest. So Trump has a potty mouth, he is from New York; I think that is a requirement to start rst grade there.

Thoughts from the debate

If we are keeping score (and we always do) I would say Hillary Clinton slightly beat Donald Trump in the rst presidential debate. Not because she had better arguments or more insight; she managed to make Trump defend his decisions he has made in his life, like not releasing his tax returns. I don`t understand why Trump just doesn’t say “I may or may not disclose my tax returns; I`m not required to do so.” And counterpunch with “you on the other hand, you are required to turn over the subpoenaed e-mails, and when Mrs. Clinton is that going to happen?” Clinton accused Trump of fat-shaming Alicia Machado (former Miss Universe) and there is no denying this happened. Trump should just apologize and say “ere is no excuse for what I did” much like “there is no excuse for you, when you threatened those women your husband sexually abused.”

Dear Editor,

I would like to thank everyone involved who made Pioneer Days the success that I think it was. It took the entire community working together and I think it was a marvelous event this year. And, I want to make everyone aware of something that happened to me Saturday during Pioneer Days. I had a booth of arts and cra s next to the Pittsburg High School Robotics Club. ey were a great group of kids. When the storm blew through Saturday a ernoon, we (two ladies, not young but young at heart) were scrambling around trying to keep our artwork and cra s from getting blown away and wet.

I’m hoping for a “throw down”

By Roy Knox

In what has to be the most anticipated debate in my lifetime will happen Monday, Sept. 26, at Hofstra University. Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump will square off in the first of three debates. The official word is both candidates are looking to separate themselves from the other and create enough “buzz” to take a commanding lead in the polls. In reality, both candidates are trying not lose any voters. Trump supporters know he can`t a ord to blow up and come off looking like a “hot head” and the Clinton supporters; well, they just hope she doesn`t fall off the stage or forget her name. is will be live television and will be harder for the media to protect her fake facade in case something happens. It will probably be a very polite and respectful debate, but what if becomes a throw-down?
