Heritage Museum to hold Easter egg hunt

The Northeast Texas Rural Heritage Museum will be holding its second annual Easter Egg Hunt at the Farmstead April 12 at 1 p.m. Families are encouraged to bring the children out for fun and refreshments.  
Museum President Robert Peoples said “This is our second year into the hunt, and this year promises to be bigger and better.” 
This year’s event will host children ages 10 and under, broken down into two groups (6 and under, and 7 through 10). Bring the children out for fun and games, as there will be two piñatas for the children to take whacks at. 
The Easter Bunny will be available for pictures. Admission is free.

Sewell presented medal

Parker Sewell is presented a Boy’s State medal from American Legion Commander Frank Harrison.  Boy’s State is a national program sponsored by the Legion.  Parker was Post 422 representative to Boy’s State in Austin where he learned how the government process works.

Saturday Night Live Street Ministries
Saturday Night Live Street Ministries invites everyone street ministries.  It will be held the second Saturday night of each month at 6 p.m. at True Hope Fellowship Ministries, 105 Jefferson Street.

Nazarene Revival
The Pittsburg Church of the Nazarene, at 350 County Road 2110, will host a revival on April 6-9 with the Rev. Henry Mills.  The services will begin at 6 p.m.
 
“He Lives” Egg Hunt
An Easter egg hunt is scheduled Saturday, April 19  from 2 to 4 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church located at 115 Mount Pleasant Street. 
 
Living Last Supper
A re-enactment of the Last Supper will be held Thursday, April 17 at 6:30 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Pittsburg located at 115 Mount Pleasant Street.

Communities In Schools celebrates 25 years of serving northeast Texas students

Communities In Schools of Northeast Texas (CIS) is proud to announce its 25th anniversary as Northeast Texas’ leading dropout prevention program. At a time when one in three high school freshmen are at risk of not graduating, Communities In Schools has achieved 25 years of success in helping students stay in school and prepare for a successful future. CIS will commemorate the occasion with a number of public education and promotional events throughout the next week.

PHS DECA Members “Make it Count”

Pittsburg High School DECA members have had a busy school year.  From service projects to competition they have done their best to “Make it Count” this year.  
In addition to serving the community, members have also been busy working on competitive events. Students compete in various business, marketing, and hospitality related events. Students took a 100-question exam related to their event covering the areas of business management, finance, hospitality and tourism, and marketing. 
In addition to the exam, students either participated in a role-play with a judge or prepared an 11-30-page written report followed by an oral presentation.

City Manager speaks

City Manager, Clint Hardeman, spoke to the Rotary Club last Wednesday.  The topics Mr. Hardeman explained included: USDA grants and loans, economic development, Main Street, and Pittsburg’s historical district. The program chairman was Mayor Shawn Kennington.

City of Pittsburg sponsoring spring clean-up day Saturday

This Saturday, April 12, the City of Pittsburg will sponsor a spring cleanup day.  
City residents will be able to utilize dumpsters and other receptacles at no charge (with the exception of tires) at the Big Green baseball field.  
Local businesses participating this year include, Discount Tire and Brake, Dyco Metal, Shawnee Enterprises and Colvin and Associates Computer Emporium.  Sanitation Solutions will provide dumpsters.
Proof of City residency will be required to take advantage of this event.  Residency can be proven by TX drivers license, City water bill, voter id, etc.
Items that will not be accepted include wet paint and refrigerators/freezers with compressors intact.  If you have specific questions, please call Dillon Richardson at 903-856-7201.

Region 8 honors Ron Bristow at PHS

On March 6, Region 8 ESC in Pittsburg, along with the Texas Regional Collaborative (TRC), honored Math and Science teachers across the Northeast Texas Region who served as TRC Mentor Teachers during the 2013-14 school year.  
As a member of this collaborative, each teacher completed more than 100 hours of professional development in the past 8 months.  
The teacher honored from Pittsburg ISD was Ron Bristow from Pittsburg High School.  In addition to recognition from the TRC, he also received recognition from U.S. Senator John Cornyn’s office and Texas State Senator Kevin Eltife’s office for his contributions to education.  Also in attendance to help in honoring him was Pittsburg ISD Superintendent Judy Pollan.

April named Prevention of Animal Cruelty Month

The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to prevention of cruelty to animals throughout the United States with a membership of + 1.2 million. It was organized in 1866. 
April is the ASPCA Prevention of Animal Cruelty Month. 
Check out our list of signs that may alert someone of an animal needing help.
 
Physical Signs
 
*Collar so tight that is has caused a neck wound or has become embedded in the pets neck
*Open wounds, signs of multiple healed wounds or an ongoing injury or illness that isn’t being treated
*Untreated skin conditions that have caused loss of hair, scaly skin, bumps or rashes
*Extreme thinness or emaciation- bones may be visible
