City to ban burning leaves, household trash

By Debbie A. Knox

Soon city residents may not be able to burn leaves or trash in the city limits. The city council held the first reading, of two, for a new city ordinance concerning outdoor burning. The ordinance prohibits burning leaves or trash in the city limits but residents can burn tree limbs, brush and plant material after obtaining a no-cost permit from the fire department.

“Citizens will not be able to burn leaves or household trash at all. However, we provide trash collection service; and with that service, residents can bag up to six bags of leaves, twice a week. Or citizens ca  mulch their leaves,” said City Manager Clint Hardeman. “An application, to burn tree limbs, brush and plant material can be filled out with the Pittsburg Fire Department. There is no cost for the permit; however, it must be in writing and approved.”
