Gary Bicknell is celebrating 30 years as president of Cypress Bank in Pittsburg.
Cypress Bank is home office in Pittsburg and has been serving the financial needs of Northeast Texas families since 1977. Locally owned, “Cypress” is the oldest bank name in Pittsburg and Camp County, with branch offices in Commerce, Lone Star, and Mount Pleasant.
Growing up locally between Pittsburg and Daingerfield in Cason, Mr. Bicknell went to Daingerfield schools as a boy. Once he graduated he enrolled at The University of Texas in 1968 with a desire to become a chemical engineer.
“I had a great fondness for math and science in school so I pursued my major in chemical engineering,” Mr. Bicknell said. “But back then, many who majored in that field were driving taxi cabs so I decided I would pursue a different career.”
Banking was that second option. Mr. Bicknell’s father and grandfather had been bankers so he decided keeping it in the family was probably his best bet. Mr. Bicknell started his banking career in October of 1972 with American National Bank in Denver, Colo. He returned home the next year and managed the Daingerfield and Hughes Springs offices of Atlanta Federal Savings for 10 and a half years.
