The Texas Department of Public Safety says excessive speed was a contributing factor in the wreck that cost the life of a Pittsburg resident and sent a child to the hospital last Wednesday.
Officials say Johnny Ross Blankenship II, 34, was traveling at an unsafe speed when his vehicle, a white Cadillac Seville, left the road and collided with a tree on County Road 4246 late last Wednesday afternoon. Camp County EMS and the Pittsburg Fire Department were dispatched to the scene at 5:18 p.m.
Despite the best efforts of rescue personnel, Mr. Blankenship passed away at the scene and pronounced dead by Justice of the Peace Bobby Carpenter.
Six-year-old Jase Blankenship was pinned in the passenger’s side front seat by the collision and had to be cut free of the vehicle by rescue workers. Jase was airlifted from the scene to Dallas Children’s Hospital, where he is recovering from non-life-threatening injuries.
