Train derails, blocks Pittsburg streets

A Union Pacific train derailed at the Marshall Street crossing shortly before 9 a.m. Saturday morning, causing blockages on Marshall, Fulton, Quitman, Clayton and Market streets for several hours. Union Pacific Police worked the accident and helped the Pittsburg Police Department work the crossings. Union Pacific had started to break the train down and opened the crossings to traffic by noon. Reports indicate that an axle may have broken on one of the cars, causing the derailment. There were no spills or leaks. Union Pacific could not be reached for comment.
