Getting into the Christmas spirit

It`s beginning to look a lot like Christmas around our house. The tree is up and is loaded to the max with lights and ornaments.
Wreaths are hanging from almost every wall, snow babies and snow villages occupy the shelves and tops of cabinets.
I have cleaned the fireplace and chimney so Santa Claus will have easy access through the game room all the way to the Christmas tree.
I also checked the roof to make sure it would withstand the weight of a sled and a bunch of reindeer.
This will be my 60th Christmas and I pretty much know what to do. What I am is lacking the Christmas spirit that I had as a child. I`m not sure where or when I lost it, but I don`t think it has anything to do with your age.
My mother-in-law Ruth Mayben Brown was almost giddy this time of year, and as she used to point out “I`m no spring chicken.”
What enables some people to retain that youthful excitement throughout their lives?
Don`t get me wrong, I`m not a Scrooge. I love Christmas, it just takes me longer to get in the mood.
Now if we had one of those elves that continuously pulls practical jokes that might help, but what I really need is a few (or maybe a lot) small children that I can squeeze and hug on and occasionally torture.
When I say torture I mean having to tell them that Al Gore and his Global Warming has caused the North Pole to melt and Santa can`t come this year.
Or that Snow Witch Nancy Pelosi is going to take three teeth from each little boy and girl and give them to little boys and girls that are less fortunate.
Hey, I believe I`m starting to get the spirit. Merry Christmas!
• For all you haters out there that thought Carrie Underwood did a terrible job in the remake of “Sound of Music” just who do you think could have pulled that off? The better question is why did someone try to remake such a classic?
•Congratulation to the Baylor Bears on winning the Big 12 Championship. As the Big 12 winner they will play in the Fiesta Bowl versus USF. It will be the first BCS bowl game for either team.
•The Texas Longhorns will face the Oregon Ducks at the Alamo Bowl. This won`t be pretty, Oregon has one of the best three quarterbacks in the country and Texas will be starting the worst back-up quarterback in the conference. The game will be over by halftime.
•Lots of rumors swirling on Mack Brown’s future.  Will the new Athletic Director and powerful big money donors make the switch?  I believe they will.
•Rush Limbaugh and Oprah are at odds over President Obama. Oprah thinks Obama is being mistreated badly because he is black and Limbaugh thinks Obama is a liar. Personally I don`t care what either one of them thinks.
