Habitat for Humanity helps build ramp for Camp County
Habitat for Humanity of Camp County, in collaboration with the Texas Ramps affiliate, Longview Ramps invites everyone in this area to help us construct a ramp for a local resident on Saturday, Dec. 7. The local Habitat affiliate, according to Mary Carter Lloyd, President, was advised that Arbea Hollins of Lafayette had undergone surgery earlier this year and was now wheelchair bound.
Getting out of the house is near impossible for him because of the height of his porch and steps. Habitat board member Jerry Goforth contacted the Texas Ramps organization. They provide ramp building materials and training for local community groups who want to participate in helping the disabled meet some of their accessibility challenges.
Bill Slegir of the affiliate Longview Ramps will provide the materials and work with Jerry Goforth and the Habitat volunteers on this ramp project and help us set up a “Camp Ramps” affiliate. Please contact Jerry Goforth at 903-767-5439 for more information and/or to volunteer to help with the set up of “Camp Ramps.”
The project will start at 9:00 am on Saturday, December 7th at Arbea Hollin’s residence at 1184 CR 4330 (FM 993 to FM 2254, left on CR 4330). Habitat will provide a hot dog lunch with trimmings to the family and the volunteers at 11:30 am thanks to donations from Fred’s and Brookshire’s.
