Schools went into lockdown Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 19, when there was a report of an armed suspect was on the north side of Cypress Street within blocks of Pittsburg High School and Bethel Christian Academy.
Pittsburg Independent School District Police Chief Tyrone Rogers was notified by the Camp County Sheriff’s Office about the suspect and shortly after heard the suspect’s name on the scanner. Chief Rogers found the suspect over by Park Place walking to the high school. Chief Rogers detained and searched the suspect. Pittsburg Police officers arrived and conducted a search of the suspect as well.  No weapon was found and no arrest was made.
“Pittsburg Independent School District has a lockdown procedure in place.  Drills have occurred to ensure that the administration, faculty, staff and students know what actions to take when a situation like this one happens.  Those procedures were followed and as a result, our campus was both safe and secure.  At the time this incident occurred, there were also parents on campus, and in addition, their safety was addressed,” Chief Rogers said.
