Letters to the Editor

Reader says more
information is needed
to understand ACA

Dear Editor:
Please allow me to respond to the article “Why doesn’t the website work” by Roy Knox printed in The Gazette Oct. 31.
Ignorance is not having enough information to give understanding. I, along with a great number of others, do not have enough information to fully understand the “Affordable Care Act” (Obamacare). Like all government programs, it is probably going to benefit some and be a burden to others. It has always been this way.
Anyone who expresses an opinion about the simplicity of getting insurance for those “that have money” is ignorant of those that don’t. Those of us that live on Social Security and have to rely on Medicare and supplemental insurance experience complicated and time consuming situations. Try filling out all the forms for assistance by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission in Midland, including Texas Medicaid and Food Stamps. Fill out all the financial income forms sent by a state office in Bryan. How long do you think it takes to get a reply from the Retirement, Survivors and Disability Insurance office in Kansas City, Missouri about your case?
Try calling one of these offices and the first thing you have to do is press a number if you want to speak English. Then you get a recording saying that no one is available to speak with you but your call will be returned ASAP. But seldom is.
Mr. Knox, the insurance company you use has probably been using a website for many years dealing with simple basic insurance policies. I appreciate your opinion, but do you have enough information to understand the Affordable Care Act and, most of all, the way of life that is lived by those of us who will be most affected.
“But if any man be ignorant, let him be ignorant” (1 Corinthians 14:38)
