Marshall
Longtime Pittsburg business owner, James Cotie Marshall, 81, died Thursday, Oct. 31 at East Texas Medical Center Pittsburg. Mr. Marshall owned James’ Barber Shop for 51 years. He was a member of the Macedonia Baptist Church where he served as a deacon; he was past president and a current member of the Pittsburg Rodeo Association and an Army veteran. Mr. Marshall was responsible for bringing the Handicapable Rodeo to the state of Texas 26 years ago. The handicapable rodeo started with 5 participants the first year and has expanded to over 700 participants in 2013.
Born Sept. 13, 1932, and raised in Pittsburg, Mr. Marshall’s parent’s Crafton Gather Marshall and Mary Martha Richardson Marshall preceded him in death.
Services, under the direction of Erman Smith Funeral Home, were held for Mr. Marshall at Macedonia Baptist Church, Saturday, Nov. 2, with the Revs. Randy Stracener and Eddie Marsh officiating. Interment was in Macedonia Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Sylvia Turnage Marshall of Pittsburg; one son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Betty Marshall; one daughter and son-in-law Linda and Jackie Howell, all of Pittsburg. Grandchildren include: Misty and Jake Proffitt and Casey and Kari Howell, all of Pittsburg; Erin and Brittany Marshall of Mountain View, Ark.; David and Whitney Marshall of Longview; great grandchildren are Dakota Durfee and Drake Proffitt, Tristan, Cameron, Aschton and Slayton Howell, all of Pittsburg; Bryclyn and Maverick Marshall of Mountain View, Ark; Hendrix Marshall of Longview; Kaden Proffitt and Kenley Proffitt of Mount Vernon.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Mildred “Rip” Daily and two brothers, Pete Marshall and Jack Marshall.
Serving as honorary pallbearer was John Kirkes and pallbearers were, Wayne Hadderton, Danny Howell, Bob Nitson, Gerald Phillips, James Barrier and David Chustz.
