The Pittsburg Independent School district held a regular meeting of the Board of Trustees on Monday, Oct. 7. Construction was the primary topic of the night as they discussed and acted on items pertaining to projects at both Pittsburg Primary and Intermediate schools.
The meeting began with Compass Builders giving a report about upcoming construction projects in the district. The board then took action on three separate projects. The first of these was a wrought-iron fence in front of the Primary School near the pickup circle. This project will cost $37,880 and the bid was awarded to T&N Fence Company of Daingerfield. The board unanimously approved the project and associated costs.
The second project approved was a security pipe rail fence around the perimeter of the Intermediate School. The board had a choice between a six or eight-foot fence. After polling the staff, who unanimously voted for the taller option for security, the board voted to approve the taller option. The project will cost the district $34,240. The board unanimously approved JPCH Construction of Gilmer for this project in a separate vote.

The board unanimously approved JPCH Construction of Gilmer for this project in a separate vote.
The third construction project discussed involved extending the canopies at the Primary and Intermediate schools. These shelters will provide more protection for students during inclement weather. JPCH Construction in Gilmer won the contract for this project with bids of $90,300 for the Primary School and $53,209 for the Intermediate School. The total for that project is $143,509.
The board also discussed adding another canopy at the Life Skills building. This project was not on the board agenda, but they plan to act soon. The cost would be the same $281 per linear foot that is being charged for the other canopy projects.
The board also discussed the upcoming move to a paperless BoardBook software. This system cuts down on paper usage for board meetings by compiling board packets in an online environment. Members can have access to important documents anywhere there is an Internet connection.
