Camp County Service officer Phillip Jones announced at the Camp County Commissioner’s meeting, Monday, Oct. 14, if the government shutdown is not stopped, by Nov. 1, over 1,100 Camp County veterans may not receive their monthly stipend for veteran commissions and pensions.
Mr. Jones said the US Department Of Veterans Affairs (VA) will continue to process claims, but due to the furlough, “the claims processing has slowed to less than a crawl.”
According to the VA website, during the government shutdown, VA medical centers, clinics and other health services have advance appropriations for 2014 and will remain open.
