Superintendent explains property re-evaluations to school board

Pittsburg ISD Superintendent Judy Pollan explained the recent tax reevaluation that many citizens in the county received and have asked about.
Some residents in the county have expressed concerns and questions. However, nothing has changed; there has been no tax increase. The Camp County Appraisal Board reevaluates one third of the county yearly. Each third of the county receives a reevaluation every third year.
The County’s tax rate is $1.04 and the bond issue rate is 20 cents as permitted by the vote of the citizens of the county. Anyone who received a tax increase it is due to the current reevaluation of the property in question by the Camp County Appraisal Board or by the correction of the depreciation schedule.
“School districts have no control over the appraisal districts. The state comptroller’s office is the governing authority over those districts, as well as the appraisal board,” said Pollan. “The state office sets the rules that local appraisal districts must follow. If an appraisal district’s values are more than five percent below the state values, it does have a negative effect on school funding.”
