Chamber hosting annual Chili Cook-off Saturday

For the seventh year in a row, the Pittsburg-Camp County Chamber of Commerce will host its annual Camp County Chili Cook-off on Saturday, Feb. 18, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Methodist Ministry Center Building.
Tickets are sold at the door and are $5 per person for all the chili you can eat.
Chamber Executive Director Allen Weather said each person will get a cup, spoon and a ballot.
“We’re using an old ballot box from the county to put the ballots in,” he noted.
Weatherford said the winners get to keep the trophy for a year. The Pittsburg Lions Club is the two-time defending champions.
There are won awards presented – the People’s Choice Award and Best Booth Presentation. The People’s Choice is voted on by ballot after tasting all of the chili entries. Voting ends at 1 p.m and the winner will be announced at 1:15.
The second award will be decided by a group of judges.
“I don’t think the chili winner has ever won the booth presentation award,” said Weatherford.
Weatherford said there were five entries last year, but he’s expecting more on Saturday.
“I would like to get it up to 10,” he said.
He is expecting about 70-80 people to attend.
Weatherford said the building will open at 8 a.m. for those competing in the event.
Proceeds from the event go to the Chamber.
