City council approves new budget, street closures for holiday events

The Pittsburg City Council approved the new fiscal year budget; approved street closures for the annual downtown trick-or-treat event and the new Home for the Holidays Festival and considered a number of other agenda items at the city council meeting on Sept. 12. The council approved an amended ordinance regarding outdoor burning; the amendment was added to allow for burning on multiple days in special circumstances such as commercial or agriculture development or cleanup. The fiscal year budget was unanimously approved by the council, which will capitalize on newly generated revenue thanks to the annexation of land on Highway 271. “Both the general fund and the utility fund are presented in the black this year. We had a budget workshop where we discussed the budget in detail and this is what we’re presenting to the council tonight,” said City Manager Clint Hardeman. A resolution to ratify the increased property tax revenues reflected in the budget. In addition, the council set the tax rate for the fiscal year.
