• Judy Pollan is superintendent of the Pittsburg Independent School District. The school board made it official at the school board meeting.
• Camp County commissioners unanimously approved the purchase of a 4,100 gallon fire tanker truck from the town of Bettie at an emergency meeting Sept. 12.
• The 2006 Chickfest Chicken Cook Off over- all winner is Jennifer Copeland with her garlic and citrus chicken. Ms. Copeland took home the overall $175 prize. In the grilled, casserole, or baked category the winners were Ms. Copeland, first place with garlic and citrus chicken; Lauren Crooks, second place with apricot chicken; and Al Ayers, third place ultimate barbecue chicken. In the soup or stew category the winners were Betsy Blasdell, first place with her fiesta chick/corn chowder; Mr. Ayers, second place with his Mexican corn chowder; and Bridge Ribsam, third place with chicken and broccoli soup. In the ethnic or other category the winners were Letha Crooks, first placewith orangewalnut chicken; Ms. Ribsam, second place with Mexican egg rolls; and Deann Vaught, third place with bistro chicken. In the salad category, the winners were Imogene Stewart, first place with pot luck chicken salad; Mr. Ayers second place with Tex-Mex chicken salad; and Ms.1 Ribsam, third place with chicken salad pockets. Each first place winner received $125, second place winners received $100, and third place winners received $50.
