• It wasn’t “High Noon,” but tragedy struck Pittsburg with the sad ending of a love triangle which occurred in 1885, according to a report inThe Pittsburg Gazetteof a shooting which took place Tuesday, Feb. 10, 1885 at the Cotton Belt Depot. Lt. John W. Heard shot and killed Dallas Smart, a Pittsburg resident.

• The Pittsburg Pioneer Club received a special award at the Texas Federated Women’s Clubs’ convention in Richardson for the 2005-2006 club year. The Pioneer Club is affiliated with the Texas Federation of Women’s Clubs (TFWC) as well as the General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC). Accepting the award for the Pioneer Club was Sonja Tate of Pittsburg.

• In a play titled “Summer Dreams,” presented by 2nd 2 None students in Mary Ruth Towsend’s second grade class, the television played a prominent role. Television set players were Caleb Banks, Cooper Carter, andMark Torres. Some students thought it would be fun to watch television all summer, but had a change of heart after being glued to the tube for two or three months.
