Don’t Let Unwanted Gift Cards Go To Waste

With approximately $100 billion in annual sales, gift cards are among the most popular choices for holiday shoppers year after year. According to a recent survey conducted by the National Retail Federation, gift cards have been the most requested gift in America for the last eight years. But what happens when you receive a gift card you don’t like, want, or wouldn’t use? You’re not alone. While 90 percent of gift cards are used in the first 60 days, approximately $1 billion worth of gift cards go unused every year. BBB reminds consumers if you are not happy about the retailer your gift card is from, you do have options. “There’s no reason to let an unusable gift card go to waste”, said Mechele Agbayani Mills, President and CEO of BBB Serving Central East Texas. “Keep in mind, however, in most cases you will not receive the full face value of the card.”
