Opinions offered on Open Carry Laws

There has beenmuch confusion and worry about some aspects of the new License to Carry law especially in the open carry in government offices. The Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, issued an opinion Dec. 21, Opinion Number – KP-0047 in an open letter to The Honorable Allison Palmer, 51st Judicial District Attorney, San Angelo, that offers his reading of the current law and the effect it will have on 1 Jan. when LTC becomes law and open carry is available to license holders. The places not lawful to carry a concealed handgun will be the same one cannot carry openly, schools, school activities, sporting events, some places on college campuses, polling places during voting, any court room, racetrack, secure area of an airport, hospitals, nursing homes, amusement parks, any established place of worship, any business that receives 51 percent of their profit from the sale of alcohol, any correctional facility or within 1,000 feet of a place of execution on the day of an execution.
