Pittsburg student creates table for fire department

Tilar Holloway, a student at Pittsburg High School, made a table for the fire station at the Pittsburg Volunteer Fire Department as his project for the construction technology class.
The center of the table is a retired fire hydrant from the corner of Moreland and Quitman streets that was hit in a car accident last summer. After some donated body work from Bryan Phillips to repair the hydrant and paint it, the department approached Gary Pearson, who teaches the class, to see if repurposing the hydrant could be a project for his students.
Tilar engraved the seal of the department into the top of the table and fitted it using the hydrant as the base of the table. The firefighters gave Tilar a certificate of appreciation for the work he’d done this school year.
