The spotlight from Channel 3’s cameras shone on Pittsburg April 3 and April 4, as the broadcaster chose Pittsburg to be their next “Community Caravan.”
“We focus every month on a different small town,” said Jan Elkins, the  community affairs director for KTBS, based out of Shrevepot.
Mrs. Elkins said the Community Caravan segment was designed to show viewers that Channel 3 doesn’t just focus on Shreveport-Bossier City. The station’s broadcast range is 150 miles into the Ark-La-Tex.
“It’s one of our ways of giving back,” she said.
Throughout Wednesday, the Channel 3 crew took stock footage around town for promotional material for the Community Caravan segment, and interviewed local business owners like Carla and Robert Peoples, who own Holman House.  Thursday, Mrs. Elkins, along with the Channel 3 crew of Rick Rowe, Keristen Holmes and meteorologist Joe Haynes came at lunchtime to interview locals at Kahuna’s BBQ.
For the segment, Mr. Rowe interviewed Mayor Shawn Kennington about tourism in Pittsburg.
“That’s what we want,  we want people to come to Pittsburg, see what we have, and we want them to come back,” Mayor Kennington said.
Mr. Rowe also interviewed several other people at lunch. The promotions aired Thursday morning and at lunchtime, with the Community Caravan segment running on the Thursday evening broadcast.
“I’ve never been in Pittsburg before today,” said Ms. Holmes. “When I got out here ... I figured out it was well worth the drive.”
