John Furlow who presented the city of Pittsburg’s audit for fiscal year 2011-12 said most cities would envy being in the fiscal shape and condition the city of Pittsburg currently enjoys. Mr. Furlow spoke to the council March 19.
“My conclusion of the city’s annual external audit was that the city of Pittsburg was in a very strong position,” he said. “It has a very controllable debt, with very little risk of not being able to address any issue that might surface. The city is completely solvent and in no jeopardy of any cash issue, despite the tightening up of grants and external monies.”
Mr. Furlow said the city’s books are being maintained in an outstanding manner.
“There was no evidence of any fraud or malfeasance, depicting a very strong stewardship of city funds,” he said. “Noteworthy was the city’s budget in establishing the direction and guidance to follow throughout the year.”
Mayor Shawn Kennington had high praise for the city staff, following the audit presentation.
“I am very pleased with the great job Acting City Manager Margaret Jackson, city staff and city employees continue to do in being good stewards of taxpayer dollars,” he said.
