Pirates open District with a win vs. North Lamar
By Seth Hudson
The Pittsburg Pirates opened up the 2013 District baseball season with a 4-2 win against North Lamar. Brian Taylor pitched all seven innings and had a handful of strikeouts and incredible defensive support all over the diamond.
“He had a rough first inning,” one Pirate fan commented, “but once he calmed down, they played great.”
North Lamar scored 2 runs in the first inning and held the Pirates back until the second inning when Pittsburg scored their first run. Taylor and the Pirates shut out North Lamar the remainder of the game and took the lead in the third inning as Zack de Luna knocked Caleb Banks in for an RBI to tie the game. After stealing second base and advancing to third on a sacrifice bunt by Garrett Truitt, de Luna scored on a sacrifice fly to right field by Charlie Mitchell.
Cody Perry and de Luna provided strong defense from the infield, and Truitt had an RBI single in the fifth inning. Dakota Warrick had a stolen base in the sixth inning, although the Pirates were unable to score. Taylor also had help with the big glove of Brandon “Bam Bam” Colbert who snagged two well hit fly balls in left field in the final inning of play. The Pirates played Paris in Paris Tuesday evening.
