PHS Academic teams are successful

The Pittsburg High School UIL Academic teams were successful in the district meet last Thursday and Friday.
In current events, Pittsburg showed made several points. The high school team took first place overall by one point and qualified for the regional meet. Team members included: Charles Walker, Parker Sewell, Johnny Chan and Daniel Yanez. Individually, Walker finished first, Sewell second and Chan fourth.
Also advancing to regional was Luis Jarillo in social studies as he took third overall. The team placed second and is the regional alternate. Also for PHS, Stephen Arciga placed seventh and Summer Pylant 10th. Chan tied for 13th.
The PHS Journalism team came in second overall at district. Emma Lee qualified for regional in both feature writing and editorial writing as she placed third in both events. She is also a regional alternate in news writing by taking fifth. Lucero De La Rosa took fifth in feature writing and is also a regional alternate. Tiara Payne qualified as a regional alternate in headlines as she placed fifth. Other competitors for the journalism team were Yanez and Ashleigh Yocum. Competing for the Science Team in district was Arciga.
