The Pittsburg Police Department presented a Women’s Basic Safety Course on Monday and Tuesday evenings to teach area women survival techniques. Chief of Police Richard Penn, with help from other patrol officers, explained safety measures and things to do to help survive dangerous situations.
The Tuesday evening class began with a rare opportunity to see footage from a Department of Public Safety helicopter during their assist in capturing an armed robbery suspect in January.
“You are the first, outside of law enforcement, to see this footage,” said Chief Penn. “I am not afraid to call for help when needed. The helicopter was dispatched from Gregg County Airport and responded within 38 minutes.”
