The way I see it

By ELLIS KNOX

Oh No! I’m a member of the press

I was able to observe the Democrat-controlled national news media up close at the National Rifle Association (NRA) Convention in Dallas recently. To say they were in a hostile environment would be an understatement. Almost every speaker pointed out their left wing bias to boos, hisses, and cat calls from 10,000 plus NRA members in the auditorium.

Lars Dalseide is the media representative for the NRA in the Washington D.C. metro area. He is a staunch NRA member and dis-respecter of the national media. He and his staff were responsible for vetting and issuing the press credentials for the convention. All of the passes for each group of visitors to the event were color coded and his feelings about the national democrat press were obvious in the choice of color for the press passes… PINK.

Pioneer Days: Under the Big Top

Carnival to be bigger and better

Are you and your family are planning to attend this year’s Pioneer Days? Perhaps this year, the entire family is planning to attend, grandparents, parents and the grandkids. Attending Pioneer Days is an annual tradition for the family and has been held in downtown Pittsburg for the past 47 years. On Saturday, September 15, make plans to head downtown to watch the Pioneer Days parade, grab a corndog and a funnel cake, and shop at the vendors set up along Jefferson/Quitman Street. It’s always a fun event for the entire family and this year we’ll have an extra element of fun, all activities will revolve around a circus theme in anticipation of the circus coming to town October 23.

Capital Highlights

By ED STERLING

AUSTIN — Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton last week asked two federal agencies to move quickly to fund the state’s Healthy Texas Women program. The program was cut off from Medicaid funding by the Obama administration in 2012 after the Texas Legislature enacted a law preventing taxpayer money from going to abortion providers. In a May 7 letter to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, Paxton said the addition of some

$30 million a year in federal dollars would increase access to family planning and preventative health services for low-income women across the state who are not covered by traditional Medicaid in Texas. Paxton sent the letter at the request of Gov. Greg Abbott and on behalf of the Texas Health and Human Services Commission. He wrote that allowing states to exclude providers who perform or promote abortion is consistent with federal policy.

A winning strategy?

by ELLIS KNOX

The Democrat party has announced its new tax reform when they take over the U. S. House and Senate. They announced they will raise taxes on the rich, lower taxes on working families. Now in “Democrat speak” the rich is anyone getting a paycheck and working families means any municipal or state union member or employee of an abortion mill.

I know everyone just hates having more money in their pocket or being able to pay less taxes on April 15. The GOP tax cut means next April, families will not have to pay any tax on the first $24,000 of their income and for a single it will raise from $8,000 to $16,000. I know all this good economic news is just breaking everyone’s heart.

The New Tax Law

By ELLIS KNOX

Residents of California and other states with a state income tax will no longer be able to deduct those taxes from their Federal income tax. And, they will have to pay their fair share of federal taxes instead of skating on them. Inasmuch, Californians will probably reap no benefits of the Trump/Republican tax cuts because they will still owe $1.1 billion in federal taxes.

True Colors

by ELLIS KNOX

As usual, the Democrats have shown their true colors, with Randa Jarrar, a lefty author, and professor at Fresno State’s Department of English, calling the late Barbara Bush an “amazing racist,” who raised a “war criminal.” She said she was glad “the witch is dead.” Mrs. Bush was one of the kindest, most God-loving people we’ve ever seen as First Lady in the White House.

Of course, what she and most lefties have in common is hatred of that “God-loving” part of Mrs. Bush’s resume. That’s always confused me about the Texas church-going Democrats. How, when the party promotes and takes big money from the abortion mills, can Christians be involved in abortion, which I believe is murder? When abortion became legal in Texas, most of my family switched parties.

Feral Hogs, Part 1

by KAYCEE DAVIS

Wild pigs are notorious for their ability to adapt and evade various control efforts. New research proves they are even more adaptable than we thought.

Did you know that hunting can accelerate feral hog birth rates? Research indicates that high hunting pressure can cause feral hogs to advance offspring birth rates by as much as 12 days per gestation cycle. Sexual maturity is also being reached earlier. Typically, female maturity is reached by 12 months, but it has been noted in females as young as 6 months old. Therefore, feral hogs are breeding earlier and producing offspring more quickly.

PHS Time Capsule opens embers of past

By LYNDA STRINGER

Monday, April 2, 2018 marked 20 years since Pittsburg High School buried a time capsule and with its unearthing came a flood of bittersweet memories of the previous chaotic year.

“It’s kind of like the line in A Tale of Two Cities. ‘It was the best of times and it was the worst of times,’” former PHS Principal Jack Arnwine told the crowd of current and former faculty, students and community members at the unveiling.
