Thomas
Charles “Pete” Thomas was born in Pittsburg on June 23, 1940 to the late Reed and Annie Bell Thomas and passed away Feb. 13.
He united with Union Chapel Baptist Church at a very early age. He received his education at Union Chapel School and graduated from Fredrick Douglass High School with the class of 1959. He was called to the ministry and pastored at the St. Mark Baptist Church, Como and Independent Hope Baptist Church.
Pete worked at Lone Star Steel for over 30 years until he retired. He served the National Alumni Association as Chaplin for over 20 years and president of the Pittsburg Chapter Frederick Douglass Alumni Association for over 15 years. He was also past president of the Camp County Ministerial Alliance and coached “Boots and Saddle” and “Pete’s Angels” softball teams.
Pete married the love of his life, Frances Morgan, Sept. 5, 1959 (over 57 years) and to their union eight children were born.
He is preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters, Reed Thomas Jr., Lincoln, Annie Lou, and Verna Faye Rush, Mildred Rush Giles, Robert Thomas Sr., and Hamp A. Thomas.
He leaves to cherish his memories to his loving wife, Frances Morgan Thomas, their eight children; Jonathan Thomas (Sylvia) of Pearland.; Derek (Denine) Thomas of Rowlett, Troy (Cynthia) Thomas of Rowlett, Vic (Chandra) Thomas of Pittsburg, Valerie (Curtis) Byrd of Cedar Hill, Freda (Ricky) Jones of Rowlett, Connie (Algie) Armstead of Manvel and Veronica (Richard) White of Rowlett. Also, Monty Strong of Dallas, Andrea (Thoms) Brown of Terrell, Stacey Bates of Mesquite, Clutarus Johnson, Le’Lorie Rogers, Jared Rogers of Pittsburg, Nicholas Thomas-Smith, Missouri; Honorary daughter Trinee Scott Moore (Terrance); his brothers; Louis Rush and William F. Rush and a host of grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
Daily
Bobby Gene Daily, 81, of Pittsburg, passed away at his home on Feb. 28.
Daily was born Nov. 17, 1935 in Pittsburg to Henry Durwood Daily and Willie Mae Davis Daily. He was a graduate of Pittsburg High School and worked as a mechanic.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Hess
George Stewart Hess, 86, of Longview, passed away peacefully Thursday morning, March 2. He was born Dec. 27, 1930 in Pittsburg to George Harold Hess and Sybil Katherine Stewart Hess.
George was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean War. After his military service, George completed college at East Texas State University and began working as a women’s apparel salesman. He enjoyed a lengthy career in sales, during which he traveled extensively across the United States and several other countries.
He loved and was devoted to the First United Methodist Church where he was a lifetime member. George was very proud to be the “oldest” living member of the church. He took great pride in the “world renowned” pipe organ and imported stain glass windows. George loved his hometown of Pittsburg. His many friends joined together almost every day for coffee and fellowship.
He is survived by his brother James B. “Jim” Hess and wife Glenda of Dallas; a sister: Martha Hess Whitehead and husband Laughton of Longview; one niece and three nephews, and many dear friends.
Private graveside services were held at 1 p.m. Friday, March 3, at Rose Hill Cemetery in Pittsburg, with the Rev. Diane Lothrop officiating. The Revs. Anna Whitehead Kent and Hill Johnson will officiate a memorial service that will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 9, at First United Methodist Church in Pittsburg.
The family request donations be made to First United Methodist Church, 109 College Street Pittsburg, Texas 75686 in lieu of flowers.
