Charges change to murder after woman dies in hospital

Saaed Musa Aqel has been charged with murder in the death of Maryuri Mendoza, 20, of Mount Pleasant. Aqel, 20, of Mount Pleasant, was originally charged with aggravated assault with serious bodily injury on Aug. 15; however, a er Mendoza’s death, Aqel was charged with the o ense of murder. e assault allegedly occurred on County Road 4114. “Deputy Bo Tucker was dispatched to ETMC at 2:18 p.m. Aug. 13, in reference to a female with severe head trauma,” Camp County Sheri Alan McCandless said. “Mendoza had been brought into the emergency room by Aqel. She was airli ed to ETMCTyler. She remained there in ICU until her death on Aug. 17.”
