County Judge lets Commissioners know his intent to retire this fall

In 2008, Camp County Judge Preston Combest died on Aug. 7 at the age of 70. He had served as county judge for 14 years and on Aug. 8, 2008 Thomas Cravey was sworn in as the new county judge. Monday morning after a budget hearing with Commissioners and some staff members, Judge Cravey unofficially notified the Commissioners he would be retiring in the fall. He said he would inform them in writing closer when he decides to leave. “I don’t intend to leave someone in a bind, I wanted to give them plenty of notice in order to have a good transition. I’ll help them through the budget process and any other way I can,” Judge Cravey said.
