Darwin Earl Baker, 76, died Sunday, July 3, 2016 at his home after being ill for some time. He leaves his wife of 53 years, Carolyn (Elder) Baker, one son, Kyle Baker and his wife, Nancy, of Denton, Texas, and two grandchildren, Aubrey Baker and Cole Baker. He is survived by a brother, Charles Baker and sister-in-law, Beverly Baker, of Joplin, Missouri, a sister, Charolette Trease and brother-in-law, Eddie Trease, of Cassville, Missouri, a mother-in-law, Nadine Elder, of Joplin, Missouri and one brother-in-law, Kenneth Elder, of Gladstone, Missouri. Darwin is preceded in death by his father and mother, Leslie Baker and Ophelia Soos, one brother, Alvin Baker, and one sister, Shirley Sewell. Darwin was born November 5, 1939, in Jasper, Missouri. He graduated from Jasper High School in 1957, and he served 6 years in the National Guard. He attended college in Joplin, Missouri, and Kansas City, and spent several years in banking. Darwin and Carolyn ran their own lawn and garden equipment business, Blue Valley Tractor, in Stilwell, Kansas, from 19791999. After retirement, Darwin and Carolyn moved to Pittsburg, Texas in 2001. They are members of the Northridge Church of Christ in Mount Pleasant, Texas. Darwin loved to fish, garden, cook and help other people. He will be missed by his family and many dear friends. Amemorial service is scheduled for 2:00PM,Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at the Northridge Church of Christ. Inurnment will be at the Blodgett Cemetery in the Blodgett Community. The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
